(Nashville, Tennessee)- In search of a first baseman, the Tampa Bay Rays appear to have landed their target. In a typical Rays’ move, they are buying low as they have reportedly come to an agreement with James Loney on a one year, $2 million deal. The deal was first reported by Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports and will become official once Loney takes a physical.

Loney hasn’t quite had the career ... Read More

(Nashville, Tennessee)- The Winter Meetings don’t officially start until Monday, but with teams and media arriving on Sunday, The Gaylord at Opryland Hotel is already beginning to stir with rumors. RA Dickey, a Nashville resident, showed up at the hotel to follow up with Mets’ team trainer regarding his abdominal injury. Dickey’s presence allowed for some buzz with only a few writers on hand. ... Read More

For one day, there should be absolutely zero negativity surrounding the New York Mets. The embattled franchise has done exactly what it needed to do by signing David Wright to a seven year contract extension said to be worth approximately $122 million. With Wright’s one remaining season on his current deal, the Mets are committing to the next eight years for $138 million ... Read More

Evidently, the industry of Major League Baseball has lost the meaning of the phrase fiscal restraint. With the hot stove season just beginning to percolate, teams are making use of the extra television revenue that was received before the winter. Thus far, most teams are showing a willingness to spend. The Reds inked Jonathan Broxton to a three year, $21 million deal. The Royals are paying Ervin Santana ... Read More

Maybe it is just another characteristic of our instant answer society. Maybe we no longer have the patience to wait. But, there is something in our society that makes us continually get excited about something and then just as quickly move on to the next great thing. Technology changes and evolves. Suddenly, that phone we just bought a few months ago seems outdated compared to the newer, exciting ... Read More

The Tampa Bay Rays are the epitome of a small market club. They don’t have great revenue streams. They don’t have a great stadium. Their attendance is one of the lowest in the game. Because of all those factors, they don’t have much room for error. Since owner Stuart Sternberg gained control of the team in 2005, they haven’t made many errors. The focus of the farm ... Read More

It is easy to pile on to Royals General Manager Dayton Moore. He was put into a no-win situation when he took over the Royals top job back in 2006. The Royals were one of the teams that were swallowed up by Major League Baseball’s salary boom of the mid-1990’s. It may surprise some that the Royals actually had the highest payroll in Major League Baseball in 1994. Once ... Read More

The next steps in Major League Baseball’s evolution are now just starting to be taken. When all of the drug speculation, tests, reports, and witch hunts began, the most interesting aspect of all of it was to see what the industry would do with players who were caught. For the most part, the caught offenders have basically faded away or already had a long term deal in place. Alex Rodriguez could ... Read More

Over the past decade or so, there is an increasing volume of analysis that essentially rips almost every single free agent signing or trade. The analysts usually conclude that teams overpaid for a certain player and that the risks always outweigh the potential benefit. But, that ignores the reality of free agency and the open market. The market is almost always going to lend itself to ... Read More

A year ago, the Miami Marlins were supposedly beginning a new era. They just completed the construction of a publicly financed ballpark. Their return gesture was to double their payroll and sign a slew of free agents including Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle. A year later, they are spitting in the face of their fan base, completing the dismantling of their team and, more importantly, the completion ... Read More

The winter free agent signing period is always fascinating. Already, the relief pitcher market is beginning to take shape in favor of the players. Reports have the Giants and Jeremy Affeldt agreeing to a three year with a speculated $6 million salary per season for the 33 year old left hander. The Dodgers gave Brandon League three years and a total of $22.5 million. The Rays gave Joel Peralta ... Read More

Since Kevin Towers took over the General Manager position for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010 it seems like an annual winter tradition of having Justin Upton in trade rumors. Towers has always been a GM who floats names around just to gauge interest and value. It is a common practice among most GM’s, but Towers was seeing the value of a player who was just 22 years old and already considered ... Read More

In 2009 Zack Greinke turned in one of the most dominating seasons in recent baseball history. Pitching for a poor Royals club, Greinke pitched 229.1 innings, allowed just 195 hits, 51 walks, and struck out a league leading 205 batters. That went with a stellar 2.16 ERA, 2.33 FIP, and 1.073 WHIP. He won 16 games and became the first Cy Young Award winner that built his case around statistics other ... Read More

The 2012 Major League Baseball season produced so many great moments. It was a season that saw no hitters, perfect games, tremendous individual accomplishments, retirements, rookie breakouts, and just about any bit of drama that could be dreamed up. One of the best parts about baseball is the conversations that it inspires. From the strategy during games to how to evaluate players, baseball is a game ... Read More
